last night, the boy bought us train tickets! [yeah, he bought them, i'm poor. more on that later.] there is a sort of family gathering at his home in the south, and we will be attending. in less than a week, i will be on the beach, swimming in his pool, relaxing in a tiny town outside of aix, and, oh yeah, meeting ro's mother. yep, the stereotypically overprotective, head-of-the-household european mother who speaks only french. eep.
that's aix. it's so cute and quaint!!
i couldn't be more excited and more scared all at the same time. meeting the family in a foreign language is something i never thought i would do. i have one week to become completely fluent! i guess i better start practicing my french even more...

Tu es capable!! L'effort est récompensé, même si tu n'as pas tous les mots, elle va apprécier, j'en suis certaine! Bonne visite à Aix!
Best of luck! My husband is Puerto Rican, and in his family it's the paternal grandmother that's the steroptypical-only-speaks-spanish type (and castellano, no less!)
I had about a 5 year old's capability at that point ;) But it's the fact that you're trying that counts.
btw - so, so jealous of you in France, especially quaint little Aix. It looks absolutely lovely.
ooh, that's so exciting!! (And nerve racking!) You'll be great, and what an amazing experience it'll be!
Oh my goodness! Good luck! Maybe look into customs, would it be appropriate to bring a gift? Flowers or something? You want to make a good impression, but not offend on accident! Let us know how it goes!
it is really interesting, to see all of you who are also in international relationships. it makes me feel a bit better, like this will be a bit easier, if others have done it.
it's also easier, cause we're not that serious, definitely not at the wedding phase.
melodie: oddly enough, that does make me feel better!! i can't imagine meeting the grandmother. i have an irrational, offensive, embarrassing fear of old age. i wouldnt be able to do it!
may: oh i hadn't even thought of customs... ugh... way to suck the fun out and add only fear! haha just kidding, i'm glad you said something!! how do you thank someone from a different culture for letting you stay in their house a whole week?
