mon appartement!!

we moved in today!

we enlisted the help of a couple friends and dragged our luggage onto the metro, which was quite an adventure! we have paid the deposit, signed the lease, and are spending our first night here. tomorrow, we will hopefully have some friends over for dinner with gin and tonics.

the place is beautiful. we had only seen it covered in sawdust and tools, without any furniture or decorations. when we walked in today, it wasnt completely done [he had some last minute changes to make] but i was still speechless! the kitchen looks great, stocked full with a french press, pots and pans, and dishes which is handmade japanese pottery! [my dad is a potter, as am i, so i am used to having handmade pottery around, rather than mass produced dishes.] the sofa is amazing, and is basically an extra bed. the bedroom is so cute and tiny, but i can already tell we will be spending all our time in the living room. even as i type this, katy and i sprawled on the sofa under our separate duvet covers, typing on our matching mac computers. [we are the cutest roommates ever.] there is even an expandable table, so we can have dinner parties! i can't wait to get unpacked and settled, which we will do tomorrow before the party.

we already went gorcery shopping. there is a fromagerie down the street, complete with a beret-wearing proprietor. there is also a boulangerie on our corner, which sells the best bread and pastries we have ever eaten. down the next street lies a monoprix, which is like a supertarget. we got groceries there, so we can make actual noutritious meals in our overstocked kitchen. next to the fromagerie is a charcuterie, where we will buy all our meats. across the street from the boulangerie is a poissonnerie, so we can buy fresh seafood! this street has it all, and feels completely french. we've been speaking french since we moved in, it's much easier now that we're comfortable. i am just so undescribably happy to be here.

i only have pictures of the inside. tomorrow, when it's light, i'll go around my neighborhood and take some pictures of the outside.

for the first time since my i stepped off that plane and onto french soil, i am home.

*the granny square cloth came with the flat. being a staunch knitter, i am morally against having something handmade, specifically crocheted, by someone other than me so prominently displayed. it will soon be replaced by something i knit myself. i just need to get yarn. i think i will visit phildar sometime this week. oh yeah, that's right, there are phildar stores where i live now!

**sorry if this post is excessively braggy. i am just simply elated to be where i am. finally.

And yay for handmade dishes! We don't have enough in our house... I need to make/harrass dad to make/find more.
