i need

a zombie survival kit.

i am in paris, and it is one o'clock in the morning. a few minutes ago, the electricity slowly went off, like a fade to black in the movies. i looked up in confusion, only to chance a glance out the window. to my surprise, the view was pitch black. the electricity to the entire neighborhood, perhaps the entire city [doubtful], had gone out. no street lights, no lights in the window, only the light from my macbook remained. there was even an alarm blaring, only slightly off in the distance. the alarm was not that of a car alarm, or an alarm clock. but that of a city wide evacuation or distress. we stood at the window, staring into the complete darkness. before tonight, i had never once seen a dark night in paris. usually, the night is just as bright as the day, only a tad bit more yellow from the artificial lighting. 

the difference in reactions between romain and me is quite interesting. romain lit a cigarette and took a video on his iphone. me? as soon as i heard that alarm, i instantly put on my tennis shoes, grabbed the only thing close to a weapon in this house [the kitchen knife], and stood in wait by the window, just in case. it is easy to tell who watches the most horror movies between the two of us.
